Celebrate the trees of North America with this sculpture honoring this tree known for it's unique nuts that resemble the eyes of a deer (buck)! Ohio Buckeye (Aesculus glabra) is a tree native to the center of North America, and is closely associated with Ohio and pioneers of the area.
The leaves of the buckeye tree are made of 5 leaflets arranged in a circular pattern, which I've attempted to capture with this design.
They are the state trees of Ohio (no surprise!).
Design
These decorative leaves are made from solid aspen, as buckeye is not commonly milled into lumber. Aspen has a similar color, weight, and texture to Buckeye, which is why I chose it. The wood's natural and unique beauty of the wood is allowed to shine with a clear finish.
The backs have the name of the tree engraved.
Note: as these are handmade items made from natural wood, there is a wide array of appearance in the leaves. The curves are different on each leaf and the grain itself varies in color and detail.
