Celebrate the trees of North America with this magnet honoring this tree known for it's unique nuts that resemble the eyes of a deer (buck)! Ohio Buckeye (Aesculus glabra) is a tree native to the center of North America, and is closely associated with Ohio and pioneers of the area.
The leaves of the buckeye tree are made of 5 leaflets arranged in a circular pattern, which I've attempted to capture with this design.
They are the state trees of Ohio (no surprise!).
Design
These magnets are made from solid aspen, as buckeye is not commonly milled into lumber. Aspen has a similar color, weight, and texture to Buckeye, which is why I chose it. The wood's natural and unique beauty of the wood is allowed to shine with a clear finish.
You might notice the backs of these are a different wood: due to the softness of aspen (and buckeye!), the magnet would be fragile without the support of something harder. In this case, hard maple was chosen for strength and similar light color. The backs always have the name of the tree engraved, while the fronts can come in a variety of styles. Find the one that matches your personality!
Note: as these are handmade items made from natural wood, there is a wide array of appearance in the magnets. Some are flat, some are curved, and the grain itself varies in color and detail. If you have a particular style you'd like, please add it as a note with your order and I'll do my best to accommodate you!
